Introduction

The earliest location for this family is Herend (4558N01820E),a small town in Baranya County in Southern Hungary. It is now called Kisherend and is about 18 km SE of Pecs and 48 km NW of Osijek, Croatia. Some of this information came from original records on film in the Mormon Family History Library and personal documents of Edgar Zwieback, Long Beach CA, USA.

1. Leopold¹ Zwieback; Leopold was believed born in Hungary but no vital records have been found. His name was noted on his son Antal's marriage record.

2. Antal² Zwieback (Leopold¹); Antal was born 1853 in Herend, Baranya, Hungary. Herend noted on Lajos birth record. He married Fani Pollak in Nagykanisza, Zala, Hungary, 23 Dec 1877. Occupation was Butcher on marriage record. Was noted as a tenant farmer on son Lajos birth record; Antal died 30 Apr 1894 in Bocfolde, Zala, Hungary.

Fani Pollak. Fani was born in 1853 in Nagykanisza, Zala, Hungary. Fani died on 26 Aug 1901 in Nagykanisza, Zala, Hungary,. cause of death: pneumonia.

Children of Antal² Zwieback and Fani Pollak were as follows:

• 3. i. Vilmos³; Vilmos was born 1 Sep 1878 in Napradfa, Zala, Hungary; Vilmos died 7 Dec 1878 in Napradfa, Zala, Hungary.

• 4. ii. Henrik; Henrik was born 13 Sep 1879 in Gutorfolde, Zala, Hungary; he married Josefine Ottl 22 Sep 1919. No children. From 1928 until 1942, he lived in Vienna, Seegasse 8. On Jan. 11, 1942 he was deported to Riga by the Nazis and probably died in Riga in Jan. 1942.

  

• 5. iii. Viktor; Viktor was born 27 Jun 1881 in Gutorfolde, Zala, Hungary. There is no further knowledge about Viktor.

  

• 6. iv. Izidor; Izidor was born 26 Feb 1883 in Gutorfolde, Zala, Hungary; Izidor died 19 Nov 1909 in Botfa, Zala, Hungary, at age 26. cause of death: suicide.

  

• 7. v. Gizella; Gizella was born 22 Oct 1884 in Napradfa, Zala, Hungary. There is no further knowledge about Gizella.

• 8. vi. Paula; Paula was born 22 May 1887 in Napradfa, Zala, Hungary; Paula died 5 Jan 1891 in Gutorfolde, Zala, Hungary, at age 3.

• + 9. vii. Lajos, born 28 Jul 1891 in Gutorfolde, Zala, Hungary; married Brucha Klotchman.

  

9. Lajos³ Zwieback (Antal², Leopold¹); Lajos was born 28 Jul 1891 in Gutorfolde, Zala, Hungary. He lived in Vienna 1908-10 and then in Hamburg in 1911. He immigrated to Chicago IL, U.S. in 1911. He was in the U.S. Army 1917-18. He married Brucha Klotchman in Los Angeles, CA, USA, 6 Oct 1929.

Brucha Klotchman. Brucha was born on 3 Jul 1899 in Medzhibozh, Ukraine. Brucha, known as Belle, died on 12 Jul 1997 in Lakewood, CA, USA, at age 98.
