Osjiek (45.55N18.73E), about 211 km east of Zagreb, is a large city on the Drava River, in Croatia.
It is only 82 km south of Bonyhad, Hungary and 58 km SSE of Kisherend, Hungary.
Osjiek has been known as Esseg, Slavonia, Austria; later as Esze’k, Verocze, Hungary, and now Osijek.
Prior to World War II, the population of the Jewish community numbered more than 3,000.
The city had been the center of the Zionist movement in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
Fericanci, Podgorac, and Nasice are all about 50 km West of Osijek.
