Introduction

Nagykanizsa, a town in Zala County, is in southwestern Hungary, (Coord. 46-27, 16-59) and is on the main road between Budapest and Zagreb. It is 82 miles NE of Zagreb, and 45 miles east of the Austrian border. The Jewish Census of 1848 recorded about 350 families, of which about 25 families were named Polak/Pollak.
